Dental implants are a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth and providing stability for removable partial or complete dentures. Implants restore chewing, speech, and facial aesthetics while offering a natural-looking smile.
Request an AppointmentWhat Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are artificial roots, usually made of titanium, surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a dentist or periodontist. Once integrated with the bone, the artificial teeth attached to implants are strong, durable, and highly natural in appearance.
Reasons for Dental Implants
- Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth
- Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting
- Restore a patient’s confident smile
- Restore chewing, speech, and digestion
- Restore or enhance facial tissues
- Support a bridge or denture, making it more secure and comfortable
What to Expect During Implant Placement
The implant process involves several steps over a few months:
- Initial Assessment: X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken to evaluate bone, gum tissue, and spacing for the implant.
- Surgical Placement: While the area is numb, the implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. Healing and integration may take up to six months. Some implants require a second procedure to place the post, while others include the post in the initial surgery.
- Fitting the Artificial Tooth: After healing, the artificial tooth is made and fitted to the implant post. Multiple fittings may be required over one to two months to ensure proper fit and bite.
- Final Placement: Once the artificial tooth is properly fitted, it is securely attached to the implant, providing stability, comfort, and a natural appearance.
