Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are designed to closely resemble your natural teeth and can even enhance your smile.
Request an AppointmentTypes of Dentures
There are two main types of dentures:
- Complete Dentures: Used when all teeth in an arch are missing. Can be conventional (made after teeth removal and gum healing) or immediate (placed immediately after teeth removal).
- Partial Dentures: Used when some natural teeth remain. They fill gaps left by missing teeth and prevent remaining teeth from shifting.
Reasons for Dentures
- Complete denture: Loss of all teeth in an arch
- Partial denture: Loss of several teeth in an arch
- Enhancing smile and facial tissues
- Improving chewing, speech, and digestion
What to Expect During the Denture Process
Getting dentures requires several appointments over a few weeks:
- Initial Impressions: Accurate molds and measurements are taken to create custom dentures.
- Try-In Appointments: Several fittings may be required to ensure proper shape, color, and comfort.
- Final Placement: Your dentist adjusts and places the completed denture for a natural and comfortable fit.
Aftercare
It is normal to experience increased saliva, soreness, or slight difficulty with speech and chewing initially. These symptoms typically subside as your muscles and tissues adapt.
Proper cleaning of your dentures, good oral hygiene, and regular dental visits will help maintain the longevity and comfort of your dental appliance.
